Day 4- Establishment of the American School for the Deaf


The American School for the Deaf if the oldest permanent school for the deaf in the United States. Originally named the Connecticut Asylum for the Education of Deaf and Dumb Persons, the school opened in Hartford, Connecticut on April 15th 1817. The first principal and founder of the school was Thomas Gallaudet with Laurent Clerc as head teacher.
