Day 64 - Public Law 99-457

Public Law 99-457 was adopted on October 8, 1986 under the title “Education of the Handicapped Act Amendments of 1986.” These amendments authorized the implementation of early intervention programs in all states. Early intervention refers to services that work with infants and toddlers with disabilities as well as their families. Early intervention programs ensures that children with disabilities have access to appropriate care and education services from birth.
