In 1990 the reauthorization of the Education for Handicapped Children Act renamed the law to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The reauthorization also added the new disability categories of traumatic brain injury and autism. It was also mandated that a individual transition plan be developed as part of a student’s IEP to help students transition to life post-secondary education.
