Helen Keller is remembered today by her extraordinary success despite being deaf and blind. Keller lost her vision and hearing at 19 months old. At the age of 7, Anne Sullivan began to teach Keller to communicate by signing into her palm. Keller was the first deafblind person to receive a Bachelor of Arts. Keller dedicated her life to activism and worked with the American Foundation for the Blind for over forty years. Helen Keller’s published works are still read today, most famous is her autobiography.
