Day 79 - Sacramento City Unified School District v. Rachel H (1994)

The case of Sacramento City Unified School District v. Rachel H was decided by the supreme court in 1994. This landmark victory ensured the rights of students with disabilities to be educated alongside their nondisabled peers. The decision cited four factors to consider when determining if placement in a general education classroom would be appropriate for a student. These factors were (1) the educational benefits available in the general education classroom, (2) The non-academic benefits of interaction with nondisabled peers, (3) The impact of the student with disabilities on the teacher and other students, and (4) The cost of supplementary aids and services required to mainstream a student.
