Day 88 - The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

The United Nations’ “Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities” was adopted by the UN on December 13, 2006. The convention sought to change the attitude surrounding people with disabilities from “objects” that needed support and charity, to “subjects” that possess rights and freedom to make their own decisions for their lives. The convention is meant to reaffirm the human rights of people with disabilities. The convention was signed in 2007 and entered into force in 2008.
