The Supreme Court case O'Connor v. Donaldson, was argued on January 15, 1975. In this landmark case, the court held that people with mental disabilities were entitled to due process. Thus, a person with a mental disability can not be involuntarily confined if they are not of danger to themselves or others. This case ensured the right to freedom for people with mental disabilities.
