Day 18 - P.L. 1911 c. 234 - New Jersey State

In 1911 legislation was passed in the state of New Jersey which required boards of education to report which children, if any, were three or more years behind their peers of the same age in school. It was also required that a special class, or classes, be established in districts where ten or more of these reported children lived. Boards of education which determined that there were five or more children who were blind, or ten or more children who were deaf or hard of hearing were required to provide special classes limited to ten students. Under this legislation districts were also required to provide special equipment or facilities for physically disabled students.
